Background to the report
Pensions dashboards are intended to allow people to view information about their pensions – including their State Pension – online, securely and in one place. The Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) expects that pensions dashboards will deliver significant benefits by supporting people to plan better for retirement, make more informed financial decisions and connect with ‘lost’ pension pots.
Jump to downloadsThe Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) is one of DWP’s programmes in the Government Major Projects Portfolio. Its purpose is to design and implement the digital architecture needed to make government and private sector pensions dashboards work across the UK. DWP has delegated responsibility for delivering the PDP to one of its arm’s-length bodies, the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS).
Scope of the report
In summer 2023, the National Audit Office (NAO) received Parliamentary correspondence asking it to consider investigating delays in the delivery of the PDP.
This report covers:
- the purpose of pensions dashboards and how the PDP was set up
- the progress DWP and MaPS have made in delivering the PDP, and the problems with implementation
- the progress DWP and MaPS have made in resetting the PDP
The report was not designed to assess the value for money of the PDP.
