- governance structures;
- policy and policy making;
- operations; and
- procurement.
Our work involved interviews with staff in the Department and reviews of published and internal documentation. We also drew on other National Audit Office publications, including our Departmental Overview of BIS (October 2012) and previous briefings for the Environmental Audit Committee on sustainability reporting and on sustainable procurement. To provide a basis for our work, we developed a framework of good practice criteria for embedding sustainability within an organisation.
